Alpha Micro Advert - September 1983
From Personal Computer World
As your company goes places, will your computer grow with it?
It's another advert for the Alpha Micro, not to be confused with the Alphatronic Micro produced by Triumph-Adler.
The AM-1062 model shown in the advert was an upgrade to the original Alpha AM-100 - which was around in 1980 - and has moved on from 1975's S-100 bus and the left-field Western-Digital WD16 processor to Motorola's 32-bit 68000.
The Alpha is also now capable of supporting new fewer than sixty terminals, running via the proprietary multi-user operating system AMOS/L.
One of these terminals is shown together with the AM-1062 "base unit" in some empty 1980s office.
The year before, Alpha Microsystems of Costa Mesa, California, had declared record sales when it announced revenue for the second quarter to August 31st 1982 of over $7.3 million, or around £24 million in 2026.
Robert B. Hitchcock, president of Alpha, attributed the company's success to its desktop computer system, Winchester disk systems, and the new-at-the-time AM-100.
He also noted that despite the recessionary climate at the time, foreign markets remained strong[1].
