Isobel and James by East Point tolls at 7am
Isobel's Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon, Dublin, Ireland - 13th August 2017
It's Nosher's last half day of an epic two-week journey across the south-west of Ireland and Dublin, before heading off via the ferry to Liverpool and home with the car. But first, Isobel has only gone and entered the "Rock and Roll" half Marathon in Dublin, along with James, a feat she manages to complete despite nursing the tail end of a nasty cold. After dropping the two of them off back in Monkstown, it's away to the ferry, where Nosher manages to blag a last-minute cabin in which to crash - the timing is a little awkward as it's a red-eye crossing, leaving Dublin at 4pm and disembarking in the boondocks of Liverpool/Bootle at around 1am, so it's good to be able to get a few extra hours of reasonable sleep. At least there's no traffic on the way back, although the Roy Orbison song "I drove all night" sometimes pops into consciousness for some reason, and so it's home in time for sunrise at around 5.30am.
next album: The BSCC at Yaxley and the Hoxne Beer Festival, Suffolk - 31st August 2017
previous album: Fire and Water: The Burning of the Blackrock Centre, County Dublin, Ireland - 12th August 2017
One of the bands on the marathon route
There are a few people in fancy dress
Runners walk to the start
Milling throngs in Phoenix Park
Runners at the finish line
Runners queue up to reclaim their belongings
There are several tutus about
Someone gets a wave
Freebies are collected on the way out
A scene of chaos
Some runners pose for the camera
Hooray for everything
A banana is picked
The finishing line
There are a thousand bananas for a post-run snack
Runners in spotty skirts
The spirit of the race in polka-dot skirts
Runners at the finishing line
Masses of runners hang around
Isobel and James do some 'warm down' stretching
Isobel and James show off their medals
On the road through the park
Isobel checks her kit bag
There's a big queue for the bus
James and Isobel with theirs kit bags
Dublin street art, advertising food
Some sort of Asian-themed cake graffiti
Life at the less famous end of Dublin
Harry, Fred and Annalua in the garden
Harry, Fred and Lua in the back garden of Da Gorls
Nosher's back on the ferry
The ferry is almost empty at first
The Winkies and Dublin Port
Some hausers are wound in
Dublin port and the Liffey
The Odlums silos
An old Lightship is hidden away
Waiting for cast off
Looking out in front of the ferry
The ferry passes cruise-liner Mein Schiff Ein
A little yacht is overwhelmed by containers
The derelict power station at Poolbeg
A close-up of the Winkies
The back of the derelict power station
The pier lighthouse
Another day, another ferry cabin
The sea lock at Liverpool
Liverpool docks at midnight
Some sort of abandoned docker's hut
Another derelict dock hut
The lock gates swing shut behind the ferry
Massive loading cranes on wheels
All-night petrochemical factory action
