A Long Walk Through Ipswich, Suffolk - 1st May 2026

We're off to Devon for Sean and Hannah's wedding, but aren't leaving until after school on Friday, and so to save on the extra two or more hours of charging time, plus the fact that our destination is in the wilds of Devon with no charging facilities, we decide to hire a petrol car. This involves a bike ride to the station in Diss, a train ride to Ipswich, and a two or three mile walk to the hire place out on Woodbridge Road - perhaps the least convenient location for a car-hire base in the history of the universe - in order to collect it, and a few days later, to drop it off again. On the upside, this gives a chance to explore some of the less-travelled bits of Ipswich, including Wolsey's Gate on College Street - the last remains of a grand college that was started by Cardinal Wolsey, but was never completed thanks to him being demoted by Henry VIII in 1529.

next album: Lunch in South Molton and Sean's "Stag Night", King's Nympton, Devon - 2nd May 2026
