The new dinghy is hauled out from its spot
Sailing at the Lake, and the GSB at Mellis, Suffolk - 6th June 2024
The Gislingham Silver Band is playing for the D-Day 80 anniversary and beacon lighting on Mellis Common, just in front of the Railway Tavern. The band is sounding pretty good, the weather holds out, and there's even Gaz, Sandie and Jill from the BSCC - as well as Isobel, Fred (who's in the band) and Harry who's sort of there but is mostly doing his own thing. A few days before, we're over at Weybread for a bit of sailing and canoeing.
next album: A "Once" Photoshoot, Diss, Norfolk - 8th June 2024
previous album: Ollie's 70th Birthday, The Handyman, Eye, Suffolk - 1st June 2024
Harry and his friend Christopher scoop water out
Isobel gets her canoe out of the shed
The dinghy's on the beach after a sailing session
We sit around eating a snack
Isobel wanders off with a folding chair
The GSB is set up under a marquee on the common
The band in the marquee
A bunch of piebald nags hang out near the band
The head of the parish council chats to Adrian
Isobel and Gaz chat to Sheila
Gaz chats to Sheila about her book
Ron's come along to watch the band
The band's sign
Ron and Adrian by the bus stop
Harry's off doing his own thing in the long grass
A flame-thrower lights up the beacon
The crowd outside the Railway Tavern
There's a pretty good turnout on the common
The beacon is well alight
Outside the Railway Tavern in Mellis
The fire spreads out of the bottom of the beacon
