Fred graffiti on a Girona building
A Return to Girona, Catalunya, Spain - 29th October 2024
We've got a hire car and so decide to make use of it by visiting Girona, which we'd last been to in 2006 - a couple of years before even Fred was born. We find a free car park on the edge of town, and wander in via a nice but expensive food market, where Harry buys nearly €20 of jellies and we get a very stinky cheese to bring back. A bit later on we find a café in a nice square for a drink and some mini pastries, and then cross the river for a look around the old town, where we find a model exhibition and visit the Arab Baths.

More graffiti on the way into Girona town
A graffito'd pink blob
We find a nice, if pricy, food market
Sticks of meat dangle on strings
The meat-stick sellers offer some samples
Harry loads up an expensive bag of sweets
A chestnut-roasting stall
Bread is baked on the street
Another set of loaves is loaded into the oven
Picture-postcard view of buildings on the Riu Onyar
Graffiti and street art on Paseo de José Canalejas
The columns of Plaça de la independencia
Isobel in PdePá café
Harry's got his headphones on again
Outside the café
A pigeon gets some fancy scraps
There's a pumpkin floating in the Riu Onyar
Another view of old Girona on the river
On the Calle de les Ballesteries
Fred, Isobel and Harry roam around
Buildings seem to lean together across the street
Fred and Harry walk up some steps
Two children wait outside the cathedral doors
Girona as seen from the cathedral
The gang hang around
Girona's 'Spanish steps'
Impressive artwork on an arch
We find some sort of model exhibition
A nicely-detailed model of a Spitfire
A model of a Panzer tank in Normandy
Suits of reproduction Roman armour
We explore the Arab Baths
The octagonal dome of the Arab Baths
The roof of the Arab Baths in Girona
Fred legs it down some stone steps
We have tapas for lunch at the River Café
Harry at the River Café
Pink graffiti
Harry stands on a stone ball
More graffiti on a shutter
A nice little café on a side street
Colourful flats loom over the Riu Onyar
Isobel looks out over the river
We look at a giant river rat
A Nutria - a type of coypu - swims around
A simple statement on a leather jacket
A tiny café is covered in posters and graffiti
Another chestnut seller
A very bright baked-potato stall in Parc de la Devesa
An implausibly-placed fairground ride
Giant trees in Parc de la Devesa
Some dude fishes for his dinner
Lots of large tags on a building
We walk back to our car park
A funky bar on Carrer del Pont de la Barca
More graffiti
Isobel peers at a hidden derelict building
Harry strides over a zebra crossing
Fred and Isobel play Spit in the apartment
Badly-dubbed A-Team re-runs are on telly
Harry reads his Skullduggery Pleasant book
We're in the hotel canteen again
Our hotel at night
Rows of empty balconies
The empty beach in the evening
