The Northern Lights and a Pool Tournament, Brome, Suffolk - 10th May 2024

We're up at the village hall in Brome for a pool tournament, although we don't get to enter as we're too late for that. Marc and Suey also happen to be there, where Marc ends up playing Exploding Kittens with Isobel and the boys whilst Suey does her pool hustling thing and nearly gets through to the final. Meanwhile, Fred's already been talking about the possible showing of the Northern Lights, which were forecast to appear at around midnight. However, when we get home at around 11pm they're already showing, so we spend a magic hour or so in the fields watching them. It's quite the occasion as having been to Finland at least three times, Sweden three times and Iceland once, with no sightings at all, it's quite something to finally see them vividly, right over the house - and we probably would have missed them if we hadn't decided to go up the the village hall at the last minute. Oh, and there's a curious symmetry in these photos between the red of Harry's hoody and the green of the pool-table baize, and the pinks and greens of the lights. There are a few similar photos of the aurora in this set, but then it could well be a once-in-a-lifetime moment, after all it's been nearly 57 years to get to finally see them.
