We're in the café at Cherbourg Airport again
There's not much action with the Dakotas as it's still mostly too windy for parachute drops, and so Robert once again drives Nosher, Clive and the Essex Massive around Normandy - this time visiting Quettehou for a café stop, Utah Beach with its D-Day museum, and then Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, where there's another assemblage of US military vehicles and re-enactors.
previous album: Sainte-Mère-Élgise and Saint-Côme-du-Mont, Normandy, France - 3rd June 2026
We're in the café at Cherbourg Airport again
The 37th Airlift's Hercules flies with the W7 code
Whisky-Seven taxis up the runway
We stop off in Quettehou
A military vehicle drives right over the roundabout
Abandoned lobster pots
Robert and Clive head off
We're on the lookout for a café
The town of Quettehou in Normandy
Fresh baguettes in a boulangerie
Clive's buys a cake and slices it up
A closed-down boucherie
A derelict hobbies shop
The fancy boulanger/chocolatier we'd been to
We briefly drive through Saint-Vast-la-Houge
A tangle of fishing nets by the harbour
The marina at Saint-Vast-la-Houge
The road behind Utah Beach
Tank traps near the Utah Beach museum
A concrete sentry post
A rare B-26 Marauder
Tank traps behind the dunes
An amphibious DUKW, or Duck
A well-preserved bunker by the museum
A sculpture of soldiers on Utah beach
Utah Beach in Normandy
A memorial built over a concrete bunker
Walkers on the windswept beach
The sand blows around across Utah Beach
A gun emplacement
Steel rungs in the gun emplacement
A vintage motorbike rumbles up the road
Another group of Willys Jeeps
A funky fire hydrant in a hedge
Jeeps outside the church at Sainte-Marie-du-Mont
Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, in Normandy
A jeep with the Cross of Lorraine on it
Another very nice US staff car
A nice French maison
Another 'almost the 1940s' photo
Inside the church of Notre-Dame
An unusually-short but impressive nave window
More stained glass in an aisle chapel
Two re-enactors have a chat
A Jeep melée in Sainte-Marie-du-Mont
A run-down 1930s building flies the flags
A Jeep outside the Bar Du 6 Juin
Eglise Notre-Dame in Sainte-Marie-du-Mont
Rust stains on a big house
