The sad remains of the Bedfield Crown
The BSCC at the Cock Inn and a Flute Exam, Bedfield, Suffolk - 25th August 2023
The BSCC - Nosher, Phil and Paul - are out on the Thursday bike ride, however it starts raining so after hiding under the trees in Palgrave we cut it short a bit and decide on Ampserand Tap via the first stop in years at the Cock Inn on Fair Green in Diss. Before that, it's Fred's Grade Six flute exam, which is done online via a videoed submission from the flute teacher's house in Bedfield - site of many a previous BSCC bike ride to the nearby Crown pub, which is now sadly closed following the retirement of the landlord. Whilst we're waiting, Nosher and Harry go for a walk - past the old pub - to see St. Nicholas's Church and the gorgeous 15th-century Bedfield Hall, built on a 9th-century site.
next album: Camping on the Edge at Snettisham Beach, Norfolk - 28th August 2023
previous album: A Cambridge Reunion on the Beach, Dunwich, Suffolk - 23rd August 2023
A cool old diesel pump in a farmyard
St. Nicholas' Church, Bedfield
In the nave of St. Nicholas, Bedfield
The church's Mediaeval rood screen
Looking back down the nave to the covered font
The ledger stone of Thomas Dunston, 1657
Harry roams around outside the church
There's a nice view over the fields
The lovely 15th-Century Bedfield Hall
Harry looks at some impressive bamboo
Another look at the former Bedfield Crown
A fading sign for the old pub
Part of an old lawnmower sits in a lawn
The old council offices in Eye are done up
Harry checks out the fridge in the kebab shop
Looking down Magdalene Street in Eye
Fred peers out from the door of the kebab shop
Paul and Phil on the road in Palgrave
Phil waits for the rain to pass
We hide out from the rain under the trees
The grim dentist next to the Cock Inn in Diss
We head into the Cock Inn
Paul and Phil discuss the issues of the day
In the Cock Inn, Diss
In Ampersand's car park - Mid Anglia pub of the year
