Paul and Phil in the Fighting Cocks
Forest Park Camping and a Walk to Cromer, Northrepps, Norfolk - 10th June 2023
It's a return to Forest Park campsite, just outside Cromer on the North Norfolk Coast. We're only there for a couple of nights, the first of which involves a few games of Bingo down at the campsite's clubhouse. We miss out on getting tickets for the legendary Meat Raffle later on, but we do enter a quiz and finish a respectable mid table. The next day, we head off on a long but satisfying walk from the site to Cromer - it's only about three miles away, but it's a hard-enough walk along the clifftop. Once we get to Cromer, we stop off at the Red Lion at East Cliff for a pre-fish-and-chip beer. The pub/hotel is a revelation in that it has a staggering nine real ales on, and would have had ten if one hadn't run out. After that, there's a 1960s festival down at the pier, and then we're back in the clubhouse, where there's a singer with a backing track doing her thing. On the last morning, after we've packed up and left the site, we stop at West Runton beach so Fred can look for belemnites. The tide's in though, so there's not much to be found. Before all of that, on Thursday, the BSCC - Nosher, The Boy Phil and Paul - cycle out to the Fighting Cocks at Winfarthing, with a stop at Ampersand Tap on the way back.
