Grandmother's Wake, Winkton, Christchurch, Dorset - 18th September 2017

Nosher's grandmother shuffles off this mortal coil at the decent age of nearly 93. There's something of a mini family reunion for the event, held in Bournemouth, with a gathering afterwards at The Lamb in Winkton, up the road from the care home where she spent her last couple of years and near her previous home of Burton. This prompts some "visits of reflection", including going to New Milton to buy a belt from the shop that time forgot - Bradbeer's - and seeing what else is unchanged from the 1980s, followed by a stop off at Christchurch Quay, site of many a childhood holiday visit with the grandparents. There's also a photo of a B-17 which must have been flown by Nosher's Grandad - the identifiable plane in the background is B-17G "BU-U", which was assigned to the 214 Squadron (Federated Malay States).
