Captain Billy Boy
Another 1940s Dance, Ellough Airfield, Beccles, Suffolk - 24th June 2005
There's another 1940s dance occuring, so Marc, Sue, DH, The Boy Phil, Billy Boy and Nosher camp out at the Shadingfield Fox, just up the road from Ellough Airfield near Beccles where the dance is at. The plan had been to cycle over, however nobody told Nosher to bring his bike, so after a moment of uncertainty, a couple of taxis are booked. Then it's up to the airfield to drink beer and listen to a big band play a heap of 40s and 50s hits in a massive T2 hangar on the old airfield - the downside of which is that it's so big it feels a bit like an enormous school gymnasium. The journey back is entertaining, as we somehow manage to cram nine people into a standard car: two in the boot, four on the back seat and three in the front, and spend most of the journey back worried about rozzers. Of course, this being the UK and it being summer, it absolutely tips it down overnight, but at least it proves that the tents are waterproof. In the morning, after the obligatory fry-up, Bill nearly knackers himself bouncing around on a nearby trampoline.
