Uni: University of Plymouth Reunion - 17th December 2005

It's a bit of a first as the Plymouth Alumni Association organises a reunion for, well, anyone really: there's no particular year and no particular course required, and the best bit is that it's in the Students' Union itself. Nosher has been returning to Plymouth every few years, and normally has a wander around the campus when in town. The previous trip was two years ago, and even in that time there have been several changes in the SU: the KFC-alike bar is still there, but the telly room has been turned in to a ticket office and cloakroom for a new nightclub-style kind of thing (it's unbelievable that students don't watch TV anymore...). In fact, the old stagey area (site of hustings, pints-of-egg-drinking and the like, has all gone and there's now a proper stage with curtains and everything, a DJ booth and a mixing desk at the back of the room. Everywhere's had a lick of bright kindergarten-colour paint, but at least the glass pyramid is still there (although this area had been closed off, presumably to prevent severe shock to those who haven't been back since they left, lest they stumble across the bar). It's a great night and seems to be successful - there's a large alumnus turnout ranging from class-of-the-70s to ones who looked like they were actually still attending. Sadly, there was no-one from Nosher's own Business Studies course (BABS), but old chum, fellow bar-worker and introducer-to-strawberry-snuff Gimli did turn up. It really was great to be drinking beer back in the SU bar again, despite the fact that they don't do real ale anymore (boo).
